The stars of the WTA are hitting the clay court this weekend at the Charleston Open. Clay courts in tennis are almost like a dirt surface, causing the game to slow down in comparison to a hardcourt. It also means players can slip and slide on the court, adding a layer of difficulty to the game. So buckle up and get ready to have some fun… it’s officially #CLAYSZN baby!
Canadian Leylah Fernandez unfortunately had an earlier-than-expected exit from the Miami Open a few weeks ago, but hopes were high as she headed to Charleston. She faced Magda Linette from Poland yesterday in the Round of 32, but lost the match two sets to one and did not advance.

Alize Cornet of France faced Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine in the Round of 16 yesterday as well, which resulted in a loss for Cornet after her two set win in the Round of 36. Kalinina now heads to the quarter-finals!
Madison Keys of the United States, who recently made it to the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open before losing to Iga Swiatek, is back in Charleston as well. She faced Belinda Bencic in the Round of 16, but Bencic was able to win two quick sets and move on.
The Charleston Open continues through the weekend, so make sure to catch all of the action on DAZN!
2022 Canadian Swimming Trials
A tidal wave of momentum continues to sweep across the swimming landscape in Canada, as athletes prepare to hit the reset button with a busy summer schedule ahead. But first we have the 2022 Swimming Trials THIS WEEKEND.
For the first time in three years, Swimming Canada is holding a full National Trials featuring more than 500 swimmers from 131 clubs across the country. These trials will go toward selecting Swimming Canada teams competing at the world championships in June, the Commonwealth Games a month later, as well as the Para swimming championships also slated for June.
The talent across the Canadian team is mind-blowing right now. So mind-blowing that some are suggesting this is the ~golden era~ of swimming in Canada.

ALREADY, Summer McIntosh broke her own national record on the opening night of the Canadian swimming trials on Tuesday. The 15-year-old, who made her Olympic debut in Tokyo last summer, won the women’s 400-metre freestyle while setting a Canadian record.
Here’s the streaming lineup for this weekend:
Friday | Morning session at 12:28 p.m. ET | Evening session at 8:43 p.m. ET
Saturday | Morning session at 12:28 p.m. ET | Evening session at 8:44 p.m. ET
Sunday | Morning session at 12:28 p.m. ET | Evening session at 8:47 p.m. ET

ISU Short Track Speed Skating Championships
Montreal has been hosting the ISU World Skating Championships, and this weekend is the Short Track Speed Skating event! Skaters will compete for titles in each of the individual events – 500-metre, 1000-metre and 1500-metre – as well the women’s 3000-metre relay.
The top eight athletes in the individual events will qualify for the Super Final (3000-metre) which will determine the Overall World Champion!

Representing Canada in these events is the same team that went to the Beijing Winter Olympics in February. Courtney Sarault, Kim Boutin and Alyson Charles will compete in the individual events, with Florence Brunelle and Danae Blais joining them for the relay event.
Sarault was last year's Vice-World Champion at the same event. Boutin is a four time Olympic medallist, having won one silver and two bronze medals at the 2018 Olympic Games and bronze at the 2022 Olympic Games.
All of the women’s events will be covered on CBC Sports this weekend! Tune in on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET and Sunday at 1:27 p.m. ET!
UFC Fight Night
It’s FIGHT NIGHT and UFC 273 is going down on Saturday Night in Jacksonville, Florida! Among the matches is the women’s strawweight bout featuring Tecia Torres and Mackenzie Dern. Strawweight is the lowest weight class in women’s UFC, where fighters must weigh under 115 lbs to compete!
Torres of the United States is currently ranked No.6 among women’s strawweight fighters worldwide, and she’s on a three-fight winning streak in the UFC. Her last fight took place in the summer of 2021 where she beat Angela Hill by unanimous decision. Her career record is 13-5-0.
Mackenzie Dern, also from the United States, is ranked a little lower at No.10, and although her last match ended in a loss, she may be up to breaking Torres’ streak. Dern has three inches in height over Torres and 2.5 inches more reach. Although Dern’s takedowns per round percentage is lower, she also has more submissions on her record.
With Dern’s 11-2-0 record, she seems like a perfect match for Tecia Torres. Expect this to be a long, gritty fight and the perfect opener for the headlining match - set to follow directly after Torres vs. Dern.
UFC 273 early prelims start at 6 p.m. on Saturday with the main card 10 p.m. ET! Check it out on ESPN+, DAZN or with the UFC Fight Pass.
