Rhythmic Gymnastics Event Finals
As the 2022 Commonwealth Games come to a close, one of the most anticipated events of the games will wrap up Saturday - Rhythmic Gymnastics!

Once the All-Around Final finishes up Friday, Athletes will participate in individual event finals Saturday in Birmingham. Favourites to take home medals include Malaysia – who won gold in ribbon on the Gold Coast in 2018.
After reaching the podium in various events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Malaysia is looking to have a more dominant performance. They will have to beat rivals from Australia and Canada though, who have strong competitors ready to take the floor.
From the Canadians, look out for Carmel Kallemaa, who won Bronze in the All-Around competition at the Pan-Am Games in Rio last month! She will be looking to reach the podium in both All-Around and individual events in Birmingham this weekend!

Field Hockey
The women’s field hockey semi-finals have arrived at the Commonwealth Games!
Unfortunately for Canada, they were unable to make it through to the final four — losing 3-2 to India earlier this week.
Still, the red and white will play in the 5-6 classification match against Scotland for a chance to tie their Gold Coast 2018 fifth place finish.

The other three teams who will have a chance to compete in the semis for the gold are England, Australia, and New Zealand.
One team that is in the headlines for other reasons is Sri Lanka.
As of Wednesday, a wrestler, a judoka, and a judo coach from the country’s team have gone missing. And since, the team has asked the rest of its athletes and officials at the event to turn in their passports.

Beach Volleyball
Canada’s women’s beach volleyball team have served their way into the Commonwealth Games’ quarterfinals!
Both Ontario-born players Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan will compete alongside Australia, Cyprus, Vanuatu, England, Scotland, and Kenya in hopes of moving on to the semi-finals and one step closer to a much-desired medal.

The Canadians most recently beat New Zealand 2-0 and have had much success over their careers so far - most notably winning gold at Gold Coast 2018 - which was the first time the sport was included in the Commonwealth Games.
So, hope is high for the defending champions this time around!
