Road to the Olympic Games: Wanda Diamond League Series - London
The London/Gateshead Diamond League (a.k.a. The British Grand Prix) featured a star-studded lineup, similar to what we’ll see at the 2020 Olympics. Athletes competing in Tokyo had the opportunity to suss out their competition and further prepare for what’s to come in the next couple of weeks.

The meeting staged 6 women’s Wanda Diamond League disciplines - the 200m, 400m, 1500m, 100m hurdles, pole vault and long jump. And this weekend, CBC’s Road to the Olympic Games will be covering the event. Giving you the opportunity to catch the world’s best athletes competing in track and field action in London.
Check out the Road to the Olympic Games and watch the replay of the 2021 Track and Field Wanda Diamond League Series - London, Saturday at 2pm ET on CBC Sports!
W Series
The W Series is coming home! This weekend, the UK based, international all-female motor racing championship is heading to Silverstone, “The Home of British Motor Racing.” AND the drivers will be competing in front of up to 140,000 fans!
After the season's first two rounds in Austria, the championship standings are VERY British with Jamie Chadwick (Veloce Racing), Sarah Moore (Scuderia W) and Alice Powell (Racing X) occupying the top three positions.
But the full line up on the starting grid is FULLY INTERNATIONAL, with 18 drivers representing 11 different countries this weekend. Like their F1 counterparts, W Series drivers will race on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, the second fastest track on the F1 calendar after Monza, Italy.
Tune in to the 30-minute qualifying race, today (Friday) at 11:05am ET on TSN or RDS!
2021 Ottawa Equestrian Tournament
This Saturday, equestrian enthusiasts will get the chance to watch the best riders compete for $50,000 in the Steel-Craft Grand Prix at Wesley Clover Parks in Ottawa, Ont. This will be the first official week of competition and there’s a lot to look forward to!

Canadian trainer and rider, Amy Millar is at the head of the standings after winning the Topline Trailer and Equipment Sales Grand Prix at the Ottawa Welcome! Millar is one of three athletes who have been nominated to the Canadian Olympic Committee for the individual show jumping events at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Kelley Robinson and her horse, Blue’s Yer Daddy were just 0.13 seconds behind Millar and her horse Christiano in the previous competition. And I think it’ll be just as close on Saturday!
Check out the 2021 Ottawa Equestrian Tournament this Saturdayat 4pm ET on CBC Sports!
Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational
This weekend, the LPGA tour rolls on into the Midland Country Club for the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. The Dow GLBI is a 72-hole, stroke play tournament featuring 72 teams competing in the foursomes and four-ball formats for a $2.3 million purse.

The field includes 12 of the top 15 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. However, there are a few teams I’ll be looking out for this weekend. Starting with the Korda sisters (duhhhh). Together they’ve won four LPGA titles in 2021 AND will be representing the U.S. at the upcoming Olympics.
HOWEVER, the Jutanugarn sisters overtook the competition and are sitting in the top spot by two strokes! I also have my eyes on Danielle Kang and Lydia Ko, Inbee Park and So Yeon Ryu, and Nasa Hataoka and Lexi Thompson. These teams are sitting at the top of the leaderboard as well and it can really go in any direction at this point! I’m excited for the next couple of rounds!

Tune in to the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational Friday and Saturday on the Golf Channel!
NWSL
With sights on picking up points over the Olympic stretch of the NWSL schedule, the Washington Spirit are on the rise! Other teams however, are bracing themselves to navigate through the tough period that lies ahead.
Heading into week 9, clubs continue to battle for points and are now being forced to rely on the depth of their roster. Only three points separate the top seven teams in the table, and there’s plenty still at stake.
There are a handful of players who will generate buzz in the league during the Olympic stretch. Washington Spirit midfielder, Andi Sullivan, is a reliable player that has been performing well for the Spirit so far. She may have missed out on the current Olympic roster but she’s putting in consistent performances each week - exactly what the Spirit needs to move up in the ranks! Other noteworthy players include, Gotham FC’s DiDi Haracic, Portland Thorns’ Morgan Weaver and Chicago Red Stars’ Kayla Sharples.
Games this weekend:
North Carolina Courage vs. Houston Dash - Saturday at 7pm ET
Washington Spirit vs. Gotham FC - Sunday at 5pm ET
Chicago Red Stars vs. OL Reign - Sunday at 6pm ET
Portland Thorns vs. Orlando Pride - Sunday at 10:30pm ET

Olympic Preview
As we know, the Olympics are coming up and I for one cannot wait to tune in! CBC will be Canada’s hub for all Tokyo 2020 coverage with live broadcasts from every venue and coverage of every medal-winning moment throughout the Games.

I also want to note how happy I am about the female representation in these Olympics. Team Canada’s 371 athlete roster is made up of about 60% women AND Team USA’s roster is nearly 54% women! It’s the third consecutive Olympic Games where the U.S. has sent more women to compete than men.
ALSO, Canadian women absolutely stole the show in Rio, winning 72% of Canada’s medals… let’s do it again ladies!!
Tune in to Olympic Games Primetime from 7pm - 12am ET, Olympic Games Morning from 6am - 12pm ET, Olympic Games Overnight from 12am - 6am ET and Tokyo Today from 12pm-6pm ET everyday from July 23 - August 8 on CBC Sports!
