The Iron Maiden at the Indy500! Plus Dream Gap Finals and 3X3 BBALL
The 4%...your weekend women's sports watch party
LET’S GO!!!!!! It’s the weekend and this is what we’re watching…
Indianapolis 500
For the first time in history, a female driver and female owner have qualified for the Indianapolis 500 together!

History was made at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend when Simona De Silvestro and her female-dominated team qualified for this year's race. De Silvestro will be taking her shot at the Indy 500 with Perretta Autosport, a mostly female-run operation with 70 percent of the race team made up by women.
The Switzerland native has been dubbed the “Iron Maiden.” She has now qualified for all six attempts she’s made for the Indy 500. This time being different because she’s working with a female owner.

De Silvestro will be in the 33rd spot in the lineup during the race. Check out the Indy 500 on Sunday at 10:45am ET on SportsnetNOW and Sky Sports F1!
FIBA 3x3 Basketball Olympic Qualifying Tournament
This weekend, 20 female 3x3 basketball teams will be competing in Austria for the chance to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
The 20 teams are fighting for just 3 tickets to Tokyo. And the winners will join the Russian Olympic Committee, China, Mongolia and Romania, who have already qualified as the top four teams in the FIBA 3x3 Federation Ranking in 2019.
World No.1, France, headlined by the world’s top two players Leatitia Guapo and Migna Touré are one of the teams I’ll be looking out for this weekend. BUT there is no guarantee and anything can happen on the 3-on-3 court.
Unfortunately, due to a complex rule that Canada can only send one gender to the Games, a women’s 3-on-3 team will not be competing this weekend.
Check out the FIBA 3x3 Basketball Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Friday and Saturday between 5am - 11am ET and on Sunday between 6:45am - 11:30am ET on CBC Sports, Twitch, Facebook and YouTube!
Secret Dream Gap Tour
The Canadian leg of the Secret Dream Gap Tour is coming to an end this weekend!
Three teams - Team Bauer (Montreal), Team Scotiabank (Calgary) and Team Sonnet (Toronto) - have competed in a round-robin tournament culminating in a championship game on Sunday.

As of today, it’s not looking good for Team Scotiabank, with two losses and zero wins under their belt. Because of that I see Team Bauer and Team Sonnet in the final... but who knows!
Some stars in the lineups include Marie-Philip Poulin, Jill Saulnier, Natalie Spooner, Sarah Nurse, Rebecca Johnston and Brigette Lacquette. And it’s been an important week for a number of these players who will be competing for Hockey Canada at the women’s world championship this summer in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Who will become the first-ever Canadian Secret Cup champion? Tune in on Friday at 3:30pm ET, Saturday at 1pm ET and Sunday at 4:30pm ET on Sportsnet and SportsnetNOW to find out!
Doha Diamond League
The twenty-third edition of the Doha Diamond League will take place TODAY (right now actually). It is the second meeting in the 2021 IAAF Diamond League series, which comprises a total of 32 events spread across 13 competitions, with the final at Zurich in September.
The 2021 Doha Diamond League will witness some legendary Olympic figures like Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (100m) and Sandra Perkovic (discus throw).
Women’s triple jump and 100m disciplines will see its second meet of the 2021 Diamond League play out. Shaniekka Rickets and Dina Asher-Smith won gold medals respectively at the first meet at the British Grand Prix.
Tune in to the 2021 Doha Diamond League series TODAY (Friday) starting at 12pm ET on CBC Sports!
WTA Strasbourg Open
Earlier this week, top seed Bianca Andreescu won her second straight match to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 Internationaux de Strasbourg. THEN, she announced she was pulling out of the tournament due to an abdominal injury.
The world No.7 had just won two clay-court matches at the WTA-level for the first time in her career. It was sad to see her go. BUT the good news is that Andreescu is hoping to recover in time for the start of the French Open on Sunday.
With the French Open just days away, there shouldn’t be any shortage of motivation for the players left in the draw at the WTA Strasbourg Open. All will surely be hoping to maintain momentum ahead of the second Major of the year.

Check out the 2021 WTA Strasbourg Open on Friday at 8am ET and Saturday at 9am ET on DAZN, TVA Sports and TSN!
